The Art of Focus🌳

The ability to focus on one task at a time is a superpower. If you can develop this skill then it’s just a matter of time before you succeed at anything you put your intention towards.

In today’s newsletter, I’ll walk you through some mistakes you might be making while working on your consequential projects and how you can improve them.

Do you ever get distracted every 10-15 minutes while working? When you know it, you’re already deeply engaged in some high dopamine activity, and getting back on track seems impossible.

In today’s digital generation that’s mundane, but if you put intention toward developing the skill called focus, you’re going to outwork everyone and there’s no mistake why people with insane focus are so rare. It takes discipline and hard work! People don’t want to do that.

Everyone is trapped in this vicious cycle of being complacent and most probably you’re one of them too. The only substantial difference between them and you is you’re reading this newsletter.

Mistakes that are ruining your focus:

  1. When you are being distracted in the middle of your work, don’t ignore that feeling. Instead, ask yourself if that feeling is of self-doubt, boredom, or due to anxiety.

  2. The task at hand. Multi-tasking is a myth. It’s just you shifting from one task to another quickly. Do one thing at a time

  3. Not taking breaks.

  4. When you’re not getting enough sleep by doom scrolling, not moving your body sitting on the couch 8 hours a day, and eating like a child, it’s no wonder why you can’t focus and your brain fog never goes away.

Here’s the solution: Implement these practices when you’re about to start working.

  • 40 Hz Binaural Beats. You can find it on YouTube, use your headphones or earbuds while listening and just let it play in the background.

  • De-clutter. You might have heard about cleaning your environment before you start working, that’s actually true! Take 5-10 minutes to clean up your workspace and then go work on your projects!

  • Use the Pomodoro technique. 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes rest, and taking a 20-minute rest after four Pomodoro sessions. You can find them on any browser.

You can increase your workload as you gradually progress and can focus for longer durations. Like 45-10 and 90-20 (same as the above just increased minutes).

  • Plan your day. Create a daily schedule on Google Calendar. When you plan your day the night before, you end up making conscious choices that result in greater productivity and not doing the “work” based on “when you feel do you it“ and “which difficult task you want to skip

    Actionable Steps:

    1) Realize that if you do not develop the ability to focus, there is no doubt that you will fall into mediocrity just like everyone else.

2)Identify your mistakes and implement the practices given to get your work done, even when everyone around you is doom-scrolling!
